Well, Dick Morris tells why. By forcing seniors out of a competing program back into Medicare with it's gaps, it will force many to buy "Medigap Insurance". Guess who thinks they'll cash in? AARP!
So much for advocating for seniors. These people are only advocating for themselves!

I've learned through hard experience that I can't properly compare mobile phone deals by just going to a store representing ONE wireless company. Instead, I know to buy my cell phone online from a retailer who represents the major carriers so I can decide the best cell phone provider.
By searching the available options in my own zip code, I don't get disappointed hearing about some "big city" or nationwide deal that's not available in my own area. I find out what's available to me. I can compare mobile phones from multiple carriers, different types of cell phones, and compare by the price range of the phone itself.

In fact, it ought to be read by every government bureaucrat whose agency "helps the poor" or claims to.
Why? Because well meaning people do things that have unintended consequences. In World War II, American GI's in the Pacific were kind to the native people who, before their arrival, effectively lived in the "Stone Age".
The GI's generosity made them incredibly rich and well off for their circumstances. Until the War ended that is. "Cargo Cults" emerged where these people prayed to the "god" to return - the GI's!
That's the kind of charity that breeds dependence, not independence. Are you trying to help people sustain themselves or do you just want to start a "cult"?
I presume we want to help others become independent - at least that's the kind of charities I wish to support. Maybe charities should have a credential that says "We use practices that foster independence"?
